One of the true greats of British music ……..Gilles Peterson BBC Radio 1
I’ve been playing the saxophone and flute and writing music for a long time now-I mean a Really Long Time.
I played a lot with Keith Tippett, in Centipede and lots of his other bands, with Peter Brotzmann, the Godfather of Heavy Tenor Players and in several of Master Percussionist Tony Oxley’s groups. I played in Weekend and formed Working Week with guitarist Simon Booth and we made lots of records and did a vast amount of touring.
Since then I've had different projects of my own across the range of my interests from totally improvised small groups and solo performances to "Jazz Rap" ( QRZ?) in the early 1990s, "FreeJazz TechnoFunk" (Game Theory) early 2000s, "Psychedelic Hip Hop" ( Stonephace) in the mid 2000s and freeish "Spiritual Jazz" (Stonephace Stabbins) around 2010.
I sometimes feel the need to get away from music and do something else to recharge my batteries but it always draws me back.
And I'm back to it again now.
Fully Recharged.
And with a TWO New Bands!
